KUCHING, Oct 6: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) plans to build a park named Guro City Park to show the former’s appreciation for the South Korean city’s continued support toward them.

“Building a park specifically for Guro City and naming it as Guro City Park is to replicate the naming of Kuching South Steet (Kuching South Ro) at Guro,” said MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng in a press statement after a courtesy visit to Guro City Council Mayor Moon Hun-il in South Korea yesterday (Oct 5).

Wee revealed that MBKS will have further discussions on the design of the proposed park after a briefing with Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, and a representative from Guro City.

On his visit to Guro City, Wee said it was an honour as the council was able to portray the diversity and uniqueness of Sarawak’s culture to the people in South Korea, in addition to promoting mutual friendship, cultural exchange, and tourism between the two cities.

Wee said he and the Guro City mayor hoped that both cities could continue to have frequent cultural, business, and youth exchanges to strengthen the friendship cities’ relationship in the future.

“The friendship between the two cities will remain prosperous and stronger than before,” he added.

Wee added that Kuching City is moving forward to become a sustainable city with green initiatives to maintain a sustainable environment for the people.

“Balancing the city’s fast development with our beloved environment is not an easy job, but with the exchange of ideas and opinions with Guro City, we will be able to achieve a sustainable city soon,” said Wee.

The visit to Guro City with MBKS staff and cultural performers from the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak is to participate in the Guro G-Festival.

It was also to reciprocate the Guro City troupe performers’ last visit and performance during the Kuching Festival 2023. — DayakDaily
