KUCHING, Sept 22: Guro City, South Korea has named a street ‘Kuching South Ro’ in celebration of its friendship with Kuching South City Council (MBKS).

“Ro” in Korean means “street”.

According to MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng who is presently visiting the South Korean city, the name of the street was unveiled today at a simple ceremony attended by Wee as well as Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The naming of the street is to commemorate the partnership between MBKS and Guro City as friendship cities.

According to Wee, MBKS signed with Guro City as a friendship city in 2012.

“In 2019, when I took over as the Mayor of MBKS, that is the first friendship city that I visited.

“Through our meeting in 2019, Guro City agreed to name a road Kuching South Ro in enhancing the relationship and to mark the 10th anniversary of our friendship cities this year.

“The naming of the road was approved and we thank Guro City for their effort and kind gesture,” said Wee in a statement today.

He said for the past 10 years, MBKS and Guro City not only built social, cultural and economic links, the friendship also contributed direct benefits locally, regionally and nationally through trade and tourism. — DayakDaily
