MBKS mayor: Participate in Earth Hour tomorrow from 8.30pm to 9.30pm

KUCHING, March 24: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng is calling for all Kuchingites to participate in the Earth Hour global movement tomorrow from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

Wee said the council will also do its part to support the movement by turning off the lights in its office, parks and facilities.


“Earth Hour is more than just an hour of turning off the lights. It is a movement for the benefit of the people and this place aim to increase awareness and spark global conversations on protecting nature, and tackling the climate crisis.

“Therefore, the public is invited to join us in this movement and amplify its mission and impact,” he told a press conference at the MBKS headquarters today.

According to Wee, other councils, namely Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS), Miri City Council (MCC), Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), and Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) will also be taking part in the movement.

He said this include private sector participation such as hotels and shopping malls under MBKS’ jurisdiction.

Under MBKS, among the locations that will be taking part in the movement are MBKS city hall, community hall, Taman Kuching, Song Kheng Hai Hawker Centre, Stutong Community Market and Friendship Park.

This would also include Farley Shopping Mall, Ibraco headquarters, Everrise shopping mall, Chagee at Friendship Park, as well as Kuching Park Hotel, Imperial Hotel, and Kingwood Hotel, Boulevard Shopping Mall, Vivacity Megamall, Green Height Mall and i-CATS University College.

The public are also invited to view the Earth Hour event that will be livestreamed on Wee’s Facebook page from 8pm onwards tomorrow (March 25).
