KUCHING, Jan 13: Kuching City South Council (MBKS) is prepared to assist the state government to manage the flood situation in the city by opening up MBKS stadium in Pending as an evacuation centre.

MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said the council is taking this opportunity to help the government to provide a safe place for those who were affected by floods during the current raining season.

He added the council will sanitize the stadium before it will be allowed to operate and to ensure that all the basic facilities are in good condition before it is readied to be occupied.

“The council will always support and help the residents especially during this time around.

“I believe in teamwork and that everyone must work hand in hand with other agencies,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Wee together with a few MBKS councillors and officers went to MBKS Stadium earlier today to check on the stadium readiness as it may be used as one of the flood evacuation centres in MBKS areas.

He hoped the rainy season would stop soon before the number of affected families increased. —DayakDaily
