KUCHING, Feb 24: Kuching South City Council’s (MBKS) electrifying ‘Chap Goh Mei 2024 Concert’ ends the Chinese New Year (CNY) festivities with a spectacular bang tonight.
Held at MBKS Theatre (Floating Stage) Kuching Park here, the concert, which is in its second edition, began with lion and dragon dance performances by the Kuching Lien Heng Wushu Association and Sarawak Tian Eng troupe to mark the 15th day of the Lunar New Year.
The concert featured a lineup of international and local artists to showcase the rich tapestry of Chinese heritage and traditions which include Abin Fang, Huang Qi Ming, Yi Jet Qi, Winson Voon, 年度时光秀 (by Emily Tan, Riona Chung, Oliver Wong and Chris Kho), Christina, Anna Voon, Dream Machine, Baby Dream Machine, acoustic duo Stephen & Stephanie, Bung Rentak Percussion and Miya Dance troupe.
During the concert, there were limited chairs provided to allow ample space for people to stand and sit in the surrounding compound area.
Nevertheless, members of the public have started converging at the venue as early as 6pm, with some bringing their own chairs while others are standing or sitting crossed-leg comfortably on the floor.
MBKS also prepared free bottled mineral water for the audience to keep them hydrated throughout the concert.
The night ended with a breathtaking fireworks display illuminating the dark skies, leaving the concert-goers in awe.
Present to grace the event was Deputy Premier of Sarawak-cum-Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Also present was MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.
The concert was supported by TEA FM as the official radio partner, official broadcaster TVS, and sponsors such as the Kuching Love Book Association, 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta, Imperial Hotel Kuching, Tay Motors Sdn Bhd and Skyram Enterprise.
