KUCHING, May 27: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) is urging the community to participate in gathering empty 500ml mineral water bottles for an upcoming project of creating the largest and longest Sarawak flag in a new record breaking attempt.
MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said that the project was initiated in conjunction with the Sarawak Day celebration on July 22, which also marks Sarawak’s 60 Years of Independence.
“July 22 is a significant date for Sarawak as it commemorates Sarawak’s independence from British colonisation.
“In line with the council’s green and environmental sustainability agenda, we are planning to make the biggest and longest Sarawak flag using mineral water bottles to set another new record,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk live session today.
While the council has reached out to schools for assistance in collecting the water bottles, Wee hopes the general public can also contribute to ensure the success of this project.
“We also welcome the support from those outside MBKS jurisdiction including various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and associations.
“Collection can be done throughout the month of June and we hope to complete the project before July 22, in time for the occasion,” he added.
Those who amass a substantial quantity of bottles are encouraged to contact MBKS, as arrangements will be made for their collection.
Meanwhile, Wee is currently leading a delegation from MBKS on a working trip to China. — DayakDaily
