KUCHING, Jan 27: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has allocated RM15,000 for its dog neutering campaign this year as part of an effort to combat rabies in Sarawak.

Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng emphasised that the initiative, which offers a RM100 subsidy for pet owners for neutering one dog, continues this year with a focus on residents within the MBKS jurisdiction.

“Last year, RM20,000 had been allocated for the purpose to benefit our residents. Those intending to neuter their pet dogs were provided with a subsidy of RM100.

“If additional funding is required later on, MBKS will do our best to secure the funding,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk online session today.

The neutering campaign, which was initiated last year, is exclusively for dogs and is conducted at a designated vet clinic within Kuching city.

The registration is based on a first-come, first-served basis, and applications can be submitted at the MBKS One Stop Service Centre.

As for the eligibility criteria for dogs, they must be six months or older, possess a valid license registered under the Council, and received its anti-rabies vaccination and microchipping.

Upon successful registration for the neutering procedure, pet owners will be issued a RM100 voucher which is redeemable at assigned vet clinic to get the discount during their visit. — DayakDaily
