KUCHING, Sept 13: The Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) paid a courtesy call to Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin today.

According to a statement, the Mavcom delegation, led by its executive chairman Datuk Seri Saripuddin Kassim, gave a briefing on passenger traffic trends, licensing matters, quality of service at airports, and other issues under the commission’s purview.

Meanwhile, among the matters raised with the commission by Lee included complaints on high airfare, especially during festive seasons, flights schedule, refunds for cancellation of flights, the need for more flights, resuming Kuching-Pontianak-Kuching flights, improving quality of service and airport facilities, aerodrome operator licensing, air service license, and rural air services.

Saripuddin clarified that his commission closely monitors the issue regarding the high airfares.

However, he advised travellers to plan their festive travels and to make early bookings to enjoy cheaper airfares.

Lee also discussed the potential of the aviation industry in Sarawak, given the establishment of Indonesia’s national capital at Nusantara, East Kalimantan. — DayakDaily
