Matu District returns to green zone status after 14-day reprieve from infections

KUCHING, Feb 25: Matu District has returned to the safe green zone after no local Covid-19 cases were reported in the past 14 days.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, reported that Beluru District’s status has also improved to a yellow zone with 20 local cases reported in the past two weeks.


There were nine districts remaining in the high-risk red zone of the Covid-19 pandemic spread with a total of 2,360 local cases reported in the past 14 days. They are Meradong, Kuching, Samarahan, Julau, Subis, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Sibu.

Of the nine districts in Sarawak under the red zone, Sibu topped the list with the highest number of local cases at 1,240 in the last two weeks followed by Kapit (245), Kuching (223), Bintulu (180), Meradong (151), Subis (114), Samarahan (86), Miri (67) and Julau (54).

There were 10 districts remaining in the yellow zone namely Sarikei, Lundu, Bau, Selangau, Saratok, Sebauh, Tatau, Pakan, Serian and Belaga with a total of 73 local cases reported in the last 14 days.

A total of six districts namely Betong, Kanowit, Song, Bukit Mabong, Dalat and Sri Aman remained in the orange zone with a total of 160 local cases reported in the last two weeks.

Of the 40 districts in Sarawak, 13 districts were in the safe green zone with zero cases namely Lawas, Daro, Simunjan, Lubok Antu, Telang Usan, Asajaya, Limbang, Tanjung Manis, Tebedu, Mukah, Pusa, Kabong and Marudi.

Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded two Covid-19 fatalities and 219 new cases today with Sibu topping the list of daily infections with 80 cases followed by Kapit (26), Bintulu (25), Kuching (18), Meradong (17), Miri (12), Samarahan (11), Serian (10), Selangau (8), Sri Aman (5), Saratok (3), and one each in Kanowit, Sarikei, Bukit Mabong and Betong.

This thus pushed the State tally of positive cases to 8,869 and the death toll to 78. -DayakDaily
