Kuching Covid-19 cases drops to 18, Sibu remains top with 80

KUCHING, Feb 25: The daily Covid-19 cases in Kuching has dropped to 18 today while Sibu remains top of the list in Sarawak with 80 cases.

Among the total of 219 new cases statewide, reports by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 15 districts including Sibu and Kuching were affected with the Coronavirus in the last 24 hours.


Other districts recording new Covid-19 cases are Kapit (26), Bintulu (25), Meradong (17), Miri (12), Samarahan (11), Serian (10), Selangau (8), Sri Aman (5), Saratok (3), Kanowit (1), Sarikei (1), Bukit Mabong (1) and Betong (1).

Out of the total, 128 were from close contact screenings across 12 districts namely in Sibu (63), Bintulu (23), Kuching (14), Selangau (8), Kapit (5), Meradong (4), Miri (3), Saratok (3), Samarahan (2), Serian (1), Sarikei (1) and Kanowit (1).

Other than that, 22 cases were reported from those who went for swab tests at health centres in Sibu with 12 cases, Miri (5), Sri Aman (3) and Kapit (2).

Eight symptomatic cases were detected today, Sibu registered two cases, Bintulu (2), Miri (2), Kapit (1) and Serian (1).

Three health officers were found positive of Coronavirus in Sibu health facilities and another two in Kuching.

Two import cases were detected in Miri where one was a Sarawakian returnee from Perak and another was from India.

Of the total new cases reported today, 54 cases were related to active clusters in the state.

The Gelong Cluster recorded the highest number of new cases with 18 in Kapit and one in Bukit Mabong.

This is followed by the Emperoh Jambu Cluster where eight new cases were registered in Samarahan, six in Serian and another two in Kuching.

13 cases in Meradong were traced back to the Sungai Bakong Cluster while one case in Samarahan was from the Jalan Green Cluster.

Adding on, the new Jalan Ho Pin Cluster reported two cases in Serian today while the Jalan Muhibbah Cluster reported two cases in Sri Aman and one in Betong.

With 219 new Covid-19 cases today, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 8,869.

SDMC, in the Covid-19 press statement today, also reported two fatality cases in Sibu involving a 74-year-old Sarawakian female and a 90-year-old male.

They were confirmed to have passed away between Feb 24 and 25 and both patients had medical histories of high blood pressure, diabetes, gout, acute hepatitis, and stroke.

Meanwhile, the committee also noted 248 new recoveries who have been discharged from Sibu Hospital (149), Miri Hospital (43), Kapit Hospital (27), Sarawak General Hospital (25), Sarikei Hospital (3) and Sri Aman Hospital (1).

In the meantime, 2,275 patients are still receiving treatment in the hospitals across the state.

There are, in total, 267 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases and five cases awaiting laboratory test results.

There are also 504 person-under-surveillance (PUS) who were registered into various hotels across Sarawak to undergo quarantine and a total of 5,833 individuals under quarantine in 86 hotels throughout Sarawak while 67,813 PUS have completed their 14-day quarantine. — DayakDaily
