KUCHING, Feb 25: With Sibu reporting two to three digits of new cases every day, the war against Covid-19 is still very much ongoing despite the arrival of vaccines in the district today.

This was the message by Senator Robert Lau to all Sibuans as he witnessed the unloading of 3,576 doses of vaccines in three boxes at 2.35pm at a government clinic along with Jalan Ramli Amit this afternoon.

He said it was historic and an amazing achievement as it was only over a year ago since the first Covid-19 case hit Sibu and now vaccines are within reach.

“It’s amazing how the speed of the scientific world can come up with a cure, and the wheel of the world economic system and infrastructure can deliver the vaccines around the world in such a short span of time.

“But this is not the cure to all problems. It will take time for the herd immunity to build up and for Covid-19 to become endemic like the common flu,” he told Dayakdaily reporters through Whatsapp not long after the vaccine arrival.

Reminding the public not to be complacent, Lau asserted that the best weapon still lies within each one of us.

This is true as long as every single person abides by the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of wearing their face masks, observe physical distancing and wash their hands regularly.
