KAPIT, June 19: Baleh assemblyman Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing handed over minor rural project (MPR) funds totalling RM1.6 million to 127 longhouses in his constituency today.

The allocations were for the village security and development committees (JKKKs) of these longhouses to implement small projects in their respective areas.

“These small projects include repairing or upgrading of their longhouses or installing shared facilities such as fans at the common areas for everybody to enjoy,” said Masing, who is also deputy chief minister, in a statement.

He said such funds could be quite crucial because it was something the longhouse folk could use during emergencies.

“Part of it will be kept by the JKKKs for use during emergencies, such as sending residents to hospitals in the event they get sick.

“It can also be used by the JKKKs to organise activities like ‘gotong-royong’ to clean up the longhouse or their surrounding areas.”

Among those present were Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang, Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong, Deputy Kapit Resident Galong Luang, Bukit Mambong district officer Douglas Pungga and acting Kapit district officer Bidah Lujah. — DayakDaily
