KUCHING, May 12: Sarawak’s efforts to strengthen access to world-class education and develop future-ready leaders have been boosted through a new collaboration between the Institute of Management Sarawak (MASA) and the University of Melbourne.

The partnership introduces a Master of Business programme aimed at developing leaders capable of navigating increasingly complex economic challenges, while allowing Sarawakians to pursue internationally recognised qualifications without necessarily leaving the region.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the initiative marks another important step in Sarawak’s human capital development agenda as the State advances towards high-income status by 2030.

“As we move towards becoming a high-income and developed region by 2030, we must ensure that our workforce is equipped with the right competencies, leadership qualities and global perspectives,” he said.

He said this when witnessing the exchange of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between MASA and the University of Melbourne at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex on today.

Abang Johari said the collaboration would expand access to international education and professional development opportunities for Sarawakians while supporting the State’s broader economic transformation.

“This programme will help develop leaders who are capable of navigating complex economic challenges, managing organisations effectively, and driving innovation within both the public and private sectors,” he added.

Abang Johari also emphasised that Sarawak’s development trajectory depends not only on physical infrastructure and economic investment, but also on the quality of its human capital.

“Roads, ports and digital connectivity are important, but ultimately it is educated, skilled and innovative people who will drive sustainable growth and social progress,” he said.

Registration for the programme is now open to prospective candidates. —DayakDaily
