Mas Sawai Cluster involving oil palm plantation in Subis registers 144 new Covid-19 cases so far

KUCHING, Aug 24: The Mas Sawai Cluster stemming from an oil palm plantation in Subis with 129 confirmed positive cases today is the cluster registering the most number of cases in Sarawak.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee’s (SDMC) daily report on Covid-19, following the additional 129 cases, the cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases for the cluster has increased to 144.


As of today, to control the further spread of the Mas Sawai Cluster, a total of 295 people have been swabbed while 151 people are awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab tests.

The Mas Sawai Cluster was declared yesterday after 15 individuals from an oil palm plantation being found to be positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the Long Urun cluster in the interior of Belaga added 49 new Covid-19 cases, bringing cumulative cases for the cluster to 535.

A total of 871 longhouse residents have been swabbed while 109 people are awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab tests.

The cluster was identified last Friday (August 20) after 79 longhouse residents in Belaga tested positive for Covid-19 where subsequently, more new cases emerge on daily basis.

SDMC said Bungey 2 Cluster, identified following an outbreak after a a wedding ceremony in Betong last month, produced another 47 Covid-19 cases, adding to the cumulative cases for the cluster to 409.

The other active clusters which reported double-digit new cases include the Lubuk Bukut Cluster which added 33 new cases, Kampung Pulo Ulu (27 new cases), Nanga Pelugau (20 new cases) and Kampung Matang Lot (16 new cases).

There were 14 active clusters which registered single digit new cases. They include Sungai Menok Cluster and Kampung Bintawa Tengah Cluster which added seven new cases, Lorong Cahaya Damai Cluster (4), Kampung Muara Tebas 2 Cluster (4), Kampung Quop Cluster (2), Kampung Paya Mebi Cluster (2), Kampung Haji Baki Cluster (2), Kampung Senari (1), Kampung Paon Rimu Cluster (1), Mega Suai Cluster (1), Kampung Bintawa Hilir Cluster (1), Braang Payang Cluster (1), Lorong Temenggung Haji Gobil Cluster (1) and Kampung Lintang Baru Cluster (1).

In total, as of today, 21 active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak had yielded 356 new cases of the coronavirus. — DayakDaily
