KUCHING, April 26: A 23-year-old man went missing during a fishing outing with one of his friends at Sungai Melikat, Marudi on Friday (April 24).

The incident had only reported to the local police station yesterday after the man failed to return home and could not be located by his friends and family members.

According to the missing man’s friend who had gone fishing with him, they went fishing together but they had chosen different spots which are 80 metres apart from each other to fish. The victim’s friend later decided to return home around 4pm and called out to the missing man but there was no response from him.

Assuming the missing man had returned home, the friend then returned home only to find out that the missing man was not yet home. Immediate action was later taken by the villagers to search for the missing man.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) was alerted and they launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation using the ‘follow the stream’ method to search for the missing man today.

The missing man is yet to be found as of press time. Today’s SAR operation was postponed due to bad weather around 5pm. — DayakDaily
