Online gambling outlet: Four Indonesians slapped with 5 months’ jail each

KUCHING, July 24: The Magistrate’s Court here today sentenced four Indonesians to an imprisonment of five months each for involving in an online gambling outlet.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar meted out the penalty to the four Indonesians, Elia Indah Lim, 36, Dewi, 27, Andia, 29, and Nur Aina, 22, after they pleaded guilty to the charge.


In the same court, Zaiton also sentenced Kelvin Kuek Che Zing, 26, from Lutong, to a fine of RM50,000 or in default of five months’ imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the same charge.

They were found dealing with gaming machines at a unit at P’Residence Apartment, Jalan Batu Kawa here on July 20 this year at about 12.20 pm. Five units of monitor of different brands and three units of the computer were confiscated.

They were charged under Section 48(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a fine of between RM 10,000 and RM 100,000 for every gaming machine seized and imprisonment not exceeding five years, upon conviction.

Prosecuting officer Insp Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted while all five accused were unrepresented by counsel.-DayakDaily
