BAU, Nov 2: The Bau Development Blueprint (2016–2030), which outlines eight key pillars to transform the town, has achieved 70 per cent progress and is expected to be completed before 2030.
The eight pillars cover infrastructure, tourism, agriculture, industrial development, human capital and capacity building, land matters, housing, and publications and archival resources.
Caretaker Deputy Minister of Transport (Maritime and Riverine) Dato Henry Harry Jinep, who is also the incumbent for Tasik Biru, said the blueprint, backed by an allocation of RM526 million, was developed through collaboration with professionals, government officers, and relevant agencies.
“The blueprint is not just an academic paper. It was designed with professionals, government servants, and agencies.
“It is the bible I am carrying to transform Bau into a vibrant town while attracting investors,” he told reporters during a visit to Bau Mini Stadium last night (Nov 1), in conjunction with the Bau District Youth Carnival 2026.
Henry said the Serikin Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) complex, scheduled for completion in 2028, would be a game changer for Bau.
He added that the proposed Bau Tourism and Cultural Centre, with an initial allocation of RM7.5 million, was still undergoing the site selection process.
According to him, the centre, which will adopt a concept similar to Reservoir Park in Kuching, will feature traditional Malay, Bidayuh, and Chinese (Hakka) houses.
He also said a hotel and shopping mall are in the pipeline, while Bau already has a mini convention centre.
“With all these projects in place, they will become the cornerstone for further development and the growth of Bau district into a vibrant area.
“The option is laid on the table for voters in Tasik Biru to see and decide whether they want continuity,” he said.
Henry also said the high-mast floodlights at Bau Mini Stadium were installed for RM2.7 million under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).
He pointed out that Bau was the first district to have such facilities at its mini stadium.
Also present at the press conference were Bau District Officer Eddy Nayoi and Henry’s wife, Datin Christina Esni Mied. — DayakDaily
