KUCHING, May 6: A man was sentenced to four months in prison and fined RM1,000 by the Magistrate’s Court today for assaulting his wife over his dissatisfaction with being given RM200.
Losion Eddision Lingu, 29, who is unemployed and hails from Kampung Sadir, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code read together with Section 326A of the same code.
Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali ordered the accused to serve an additional month in jail if he failed to pay the fine.
According to the charge, the accused was alleged to have intentionally caused injury to his 30-year-old wife from Indonesia at a longhouse in Kampung Sadir, Jalan Puncak Borneo, around 11pm on April 27.
According to the facts of the case, a quarrel broke out between them, stemming from the accused’s dissatisfaction with the victim, who had given him RM200, and forced the victim to find more money.
However, the victim explained to the accused that she was embarrassed to borrow money from their neighbours because she did not know how to repay the debt.
As a result, the accused became aggressive and started punching the victim’s face, kicking her repeatedly in the back, and throwing a chair at her.
As a result of the incident, the victim suffered bruises on her back and her left eye.
Concerned for her safety, the victim lodged a police report for further action and investigation, which led to the arrest of the accused.
The results of the investigation from the doctor’s examination report confirmed the bruising on the accused because of the incident.
The prosecution was conducted by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Ammarsoffi Yusoff, while the accused was not represented by a lawyer. — DayakDaily
