MIRI, Sept 18: An Indonesian man was allegedly duped into paying RM800 to two policemen who promised to secure the release of his friend who was detained on Sept 8 for immigration offences.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed that two policemen have been detained on Tuesday (Sept 17) to assist in police investigation.

He said the arrest was made following a police report filed by the victim.

According to the police report, the victim had approached one of the suspects on the matter, who claimed to be able to help with securing the release of his friend, provided that he paid a certain amount of money.

The victim then transferred cash amounting RM800 into a bank account one of the suspects.

However, the victim later suspected something was amiss and a police report was lodged. His friend was never released.— DayakDaily
