Man fined RM1,000 for filing false car theft report to claim insurance

KUCHING, Oct 26: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a hardware supplier RM1,000 for making a false police report alleging his car was stolen to claim insurance.

Nicholas Lee Kwang Kiang, 33, pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar who accepted his plea and sentenced him to a fine of RM1,000 or in default to three months’ imprisonment.


Lee was charged with making a false police report at the Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD) to Insp Muhammad Rizal Mohammad Razali and Sarjan Ramadia Karismah, on Oct 22, at about 11.10 am.

In his police report, he claimed his Toyota Alphard was stolen at Brighton Square, Song Plaza on October 21, at about 8.30pm.

The subsequent police investigation found that the accused had made a false police report to make an insurance claim.

Lee was charged under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of six months or with a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both, upon conviction.
