KUCHING, June 8: An unemployed man facing three charges for attempting to murder a police officer, threatening to injure his father with a parang, and for rampaging and scratching a police car, fainted in court before the magistrate could pass sentence on him.

Mizi Mohamad, 24, pleaded guilty to all three charges at the Magistrate’s Court here.

However, the accused fainted after his mitigation. He was then sent to a hospital for further treatment.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali then adjourned the sentencing of all three charges to June 16.

For the first charge, the accused was charged with attempting to murder ASP Mohd Fauzi Mohammat by swinging a parang at the victim at a close distance of one metre, at the roadside of Jalan Bako, at about 12.30pm on May 31, 2021.

He was charged under Section 307(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of ten years and is liable to fine, upon conviction.

For the second charge, the accused was charged with causing damage to a PDRM Mobile Patrol Vehicle and causing losses amounting to RM3,000, at the roadside of Jalan Bako, at about 12.30pm on May 31, 2021.

He was charged under Section 427 of the Penal Code for this act, which carries an imprisonment term of between one year and five years, or with fine, or both, upon conviction.

For the third charge, he was charged with threatening to cause injury to his father at their house located in Kampung Hijrah, at about 9am, on May 31, 2021.

He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for this act, which carries an imprisonment term which may extend to seven years, or with fine, or both, upon conviction.

It was the Ketua Kaum of Kampung Hijrah who lodged the police report when he saw the accused was acting aggressively and threatening to hurt his father with a parang.

When the police arrived at the scene, the accused attacked the police by swinging his parang. One of the police officers fired twice and a bullet hit the accused’s left knee.

A police investigation revealed the accused has several past criminal records and his urine test also returned positive for cocaine.
