Man charged with killing aunt to enter defence in April

KUCHING, Jan 30: The High Court here ordered a labourer who was charged with killing his aunt with a parang to enter his defence on April 8 and 9 in Sri Aman High Court.

High Court Judge Datuk Supang Lian today ruled that the prosecution had made a prima facie case against the accused, Bandang Langu.


Justice Supang Lian fixed April 8 and 9 for the accused to enter his defence at Sri Aman High Court.

Bandang, 59, from Saratok, was charged with killing Gelingi Ngaing, 75, in a room at Rumah Lumpoh, Bratong Baru, Roban, between 2pm and 3pm, on July 25, 2018.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries a death sentence upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, Gelingi was watching television with a girl in the living room of their house with the door closed. Suddenly, the accused forced the door open and was wielding a 2-foot long parang which he used to slash Gelingi in the neck with, eventually decapitating her.

Prior to this case, the accused was sentenced to death for killing his wife. He had received a pardon from the governor after serving his sentence for 17 years on condition that he get mental treatment and medication.

He stopped his mental treatment and medication two years after he was released. He allegedly killed his aunt around a year later.
