Man charged in court for allegedly concealing drugs in rectum

KUCHING, Nov 17: A man was charged with three charges of hiding dangerous drugs in his rectum.

No plea was taken from the accused, 29, after three charges were read to him before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali pending a chemist’s report.

The magistrate fixed December 15 for mention of the case and released the accused on RM2,000 bail and with one local surety.

For the first charge, the accused was charged with possessing 25.46 grammes of methamphetamine in a room in the remand block at Puncak Borneo prison, at about 5.30pm on October 25.

The charge is under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and is punishable under Section 39A(1) of the same Act, which carries a jail term of between two and five years, and whipping between three and nine strokes, upon conviction.

In the second and third charges, he was charged with possessing 5.30 grammes of ketamine and 1.43 grammes of 3,4-methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA) respectively in a room in the remand block at Puncak Borneo prison, at about 5.30pm on October 25.

He was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and is punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or jail time of not more than five years, or both, upon conviction.

It was understood that the accused had allegedly hid the drugs in his rectum and the act was discovered by a prison officer. At the time, the accused was under remand for another drug related case.
