Man caught 6 times before for drug-related crimes now faces gallows for latest arrest

SIBU, April 5: A man with six previous drug-related criminal cases was arrested again yesterday for the same offence, and now faces the death penalty for his crimes.

The 27-year-old suspect was nabbed in Jalan Medang by a team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division at 2.30pm.

Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said that during his arrest, the police found two transparent plastic packets containing crystal lumps suspected to be methamphetamine.


“The estimated weight is 52.55g with the value of the current drug seizure amounting to RM5,255,” he said.

Zulkipli added that the suspect tested positive for drugs such as methamphetamine and amphetamine.

“The suspect is being remanded for seven days under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952 and Section 15 (1) ADB 1952 to assist investigations,” he said.

Section 39B provides for a death sentence by hanging if convicted, while for offenses under Section 15(1) (a) ADB 1952, he said, a fine of not more than RM5,000 and imprisonment of not more than two years or both and supervision for two years under Section 38B ADB 1952 will be imposed. — DayakDaily
