KUCHING, Sept 22: A man was arrested in Kota Samarahan for impersonating a senior police officer from Bukit Aman.
Kota Samarahan district police headquarters, in a statement today, said the man was arrested during a routine police patrol on Sept 21 after he was found behaving suspiciously with another man inside a vehicle.
According to the statement, during the inspection, the suspect, who was wearing a police vest with inspector rank, identified himself as a senior police officer.
After further questioning, the suspect revealed that he worked at the Bukit Aman Special Branch Unit and was conducting an intelligence operation at the location.
When asked for his authority card, the suspect said that he left it at home and only presented his identity card, which, after checking, revealed his police rank and file (RF) number.
Upon further investigation, the man admitted that he was on duty as a low-rank police officer on vacation for two weeks.
The Crime Prevention Branch (CPJ) team from IPD Kota Samarahan then contacted the police station at which the suspect claimed to work and was informed that the suspect had been absent from duty from March 2024 until now.
The suspect, together with his friend, was later brought to IPD Kota Samarahan for further action.
Police also seized a Perodua Bezza, one unit of car key, a police vest with Inspector rank, and one black pistol holster. — DayakDaily
