MIRI, March 9: A police report has been lodged regarding a social media account impersonating Dato Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, who is the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak.
The fraudulent account, which appears under the name ‘Sebastian Ting’, lacks a profile picture and contains minimal information. Concerns have been raised that it may be used for scams or the spread of misinformation.
In response, Chia Kar Furng, Ting’s personal assistant, along with Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Piasau branch secretary Kelvin Chia Kah Leong, filed a police report and alerted the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Authorities have been urged to take immediate action to remove the fake account.
The public is advised to remain cautious and ignore any friend requests or messages from unauthorised accounts using Ting’s name.
Any suspicious activity should be reported to the relevant authorities. — DayakDaily
