KUCHING, Jan 25: The Malaysian Panel-Products Manufacturers’ Association (MPMA) chairman Datuk Wira Sheikh Othman Rahman expressed enthusiasm for the Sarawak Timber Industry Corporation’s (STIDC) License Planted Forest (LPF/0043) project.

In a statement today, Wira hailed it as the best option for the association in tropical tree cultivation for timber industry product manufacturing.

During a field trip with 25 MPMA delegates to STIDC LPF/0043 and the Sabal Bamboo project, Wira commended STIDC’s efforts and described LPF/0043 as the largest in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, unparalleled in other parts of the world.

He stated, “I think this is the best for us in terms of tropical trees for us to produce timber industry products such as plywood, chipboard, and furniture wood needed.”

Wira expressed hope for the corporation to support the vision of establishing a nursery in Peninsula Malaysia. He called for closer collaboration and knowledge exchange for mutual benefit.

STIDC’s Assistant General Manager of Sustainable Resource Management, Hamzah Morshidi, anticipated that the visit would strengthen collaboration between STIDC and MPMA, promoting sustainability and innovation in the timber industry.

The partnership aims to establish best practices and foster continuous growth in sustainable timber management, solidifying Malaysia’s position as a global leader in this field.
