KUCHING, May 10: Malaysia is looking to develop attractive tourism packages through partnerships with Singapore Airlines and its low-cost airline subsidiary Scoot, as well as with ITL World— an award-winning travel management company operating in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region with offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Dammam, Khobar, Riyadh, Jeddah, and Muscat—to bring in more visitors to the country.

In a Facebook post, Malaysian Tourism Minister Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said this followed a recent joint meeting with Singapore Airlines and ITL World.

Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman, said focus areas included enhancing air connectivity, facilitating engagement and coordination among relevant stakeholders, and supporting various travel segments such as leisure, educational tourism, Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026), and meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE).

“We also discussed exploring new routes and leveraging Scoot’s growing presence in the region, especially to promote Malaysia’s secondary destinations and other hidden gems,” he said.

At the same time, he said ITL has expressed interest in resuming stronger collaboration with Malaysia, including joint campaigns and roadshows.

Tiong said they highlighted the strong potential of MICE tourism and student travel from the GCC countries, which consist of six Arab nations—Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

He added that visa issues for students were also raised, expressing commitment to resolving them to facilitate more seamless education tourism into Malaysia. — DayakDaily
