Malaysia, China ink three MoUs on cultural preservation, tourism promotion

KUCHING, April 18: The Malaysian government, through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA) of the People’s Republic of China on Cooperation under the Framework of the Alliance for Cultural Heritage in Asia.

In a Facebook post on April 17, MOTAC minister Dato Seri Tiong King Sing said that the MoU aims to strengthen further Malaysia-China relations, particularly in regional cooperation concerning the conservation, preservation, and protection of cultural heritage, including underwater cultural property.

According to Tiong, he officiated the MoU exchange along with Ouyang Yujing, Ambassador of China to Malaysia, and was witnessed by Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, and Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China.

The ceremony took place at Kompleks Seri Perdana, Putrajaya, in conjunction with the State Visit of the President of China from April 15-17.

At the same time, Tiong said that Tourism Malaysia signed two additional MoUs on tourism and media cooperation with Xinhua News Agency and China Media Group (CMG)—officiated by him and Shen Hai Xiong, President and Editor-in-Chief of CMG.

ā€œThese two MoUs aim to strengthen the cooperation in tourism promotion through news, media campaigns, and high-level exchanges and focusing on promoting our country in the Chinese market through media collaboration.
