KUCHING, Oct 31: Lue Cheng Hing is the potential candidate of the local Opposition coalition made up of Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK), Parti Bersatu Sarawak (PSB), and Parti Bangsa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) for Stampin.
Lue, a software engineer by profession, joined the party about three years ago.
He stood in Kota Sentosa in the 2021 Sarawak Election under the PBK banner but lost to Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Wilfred Yap in the five-cornered fight by garnering 1,015 votes against Yap’s 5,806.
Other candidates in the five-cornered fight were Michael Kong from the Democratic Action Party (DAP) who polled 4,123 votes, Dato Dr John Lau of PSB (2,328 votes), and Tan Kok Chiang of Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak or Aspirasi (215 votes).
In a press statement today, Lue said since the formation of Malaysia, Sarawak’s sovereignty and resources have been stripped, and its powers have eroded.
“By right, Sarawak, with her abundance of natural resources, should be richer than neighbouring Brunei, yet she has ended up being one of the poorest States.
“It is very obvious that Malayan-based parties have not been respecting the intrinsic rights of Sarawak as a partner State,” said Lue.
Lue pointed out that prices of daily necessities and housing have been on the rise, causing hardship and suffering for the people. There is also a lack of job opportunities and good prospects, leading to brain drain and even migration.
Lue urged Sarawakians, especially young voters, to defend Sarawak’s rights by voting for local Opposition parties such as PBK. — DayakDaily
