KUCHING, Sept 10: Nurse Debra Moset, 40, one of the victims of the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang yesterday, was remembered by her family as a cheerful and caring person who loved cooking whenever she returned to her hometown.
Her younger brother, Morgan Moset, 39, said there had been no indication that anything was amiss when he last saw Debra during her visit home last month.
“She was cheerful as usual and spent time with the family,” he said.
Morgan, the youngest of five siblings, said he received news of the crash from their elder brother while he was at work yesterday.
“I heard from my brother that the helicopter Debra was travelling in had crashed. I was certain she was on the flight because she was scheduled to be on duty at the time,” he told reporters at his home in Kampung Semadang, Padawan, here on Wednesday (Sept 9).
He said Debra, who had been working in Miri for more than 10 years, would always make time to return home whenever she was on leave, even if she could only spend a day or two with the family.
“The five of us have been very close since childhood. Debra and I were only a year apart, so we often spent time together while growing up,” he said.
Recalling fond memories of his sister, Morgan said cooking was one of Debra’s favourite ways of spending time with the family whenever she returned home.
Among the dishes the family looked forward to most was her homemade beef rendang, which she would prepare especially during festive occasions such as Christmas and Gawai Dayak.
“Her rendang was a must during festivals. She would also often cook and post pictures of her dishes in the family group chat. Her children especially loved her curry,” he said.
Earlier, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah confirmed the identities of five victims of the crash: pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, 30; medical officer Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, 33; medical assistant Alexson Adit Henry, 31; and nurses Debra Moset, 40, and Jessie Paya Jok, 44. — Bernama
