Long-awaited Bukit Balau-Banting road to be completed by July 2023

KUCHING, Nov 22: The construction of 9.5km Bukit Balau-Banting road project in Lingga, Sri Aman is rescheduled to complete by July 2023, says Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Development Aidel Lariwoo.

He said the project is currently under construction and the progress is rated at 53.26 per cent (actual) compared to 66.56 per cent (schedule); “slightly 13 per cent behind schedule.”

He said this when responding to Bukit Begunan assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang during question-and-answer session in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

The scope of work for the project comprises the construction of a 1.5km-long road, of R3 JKR road standard, 8km-long road of R1 JKR road standard, and 90m-long RC bridge.

“With the current rate the contractor is progressing now, we could anticipate the project to complete by July 2023,” he said.

The project is one of the long-awaited projects by Sri Aman folk.

Its ground-breaking ceremony was officiated by the former Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation, the late Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing in May 2018.

On Oct 12, 2020, the project was awarded from JKR Sarawak’s head of project Cassidy Morris to contractor Welfield Services Sdn Bhd with the project expected to be completed within 30 months.

Once completed, it will provide road connectivity for Banting residents to the nearest town. — DayakDaily
