KUCHING, May 2: Python star Phang Sako, a household name at Stampin Resettlement Scheme, passed away recently at the age of 33.

The seven-metre-long python, “son” to owner Phang Joon Siong, was cremated yesterday (May 1) at Nirvana Memorial Park before its ashes were brought home.

Photos of Sako’s body being cleaned and placed in a coffin, by Chan Funeral Services, were shared and reposted by believers on social media.

Some even wrote eulogies for Sako as a way to bid farewell to the reptile which many believed to be sacred and brought good fortune.

Sako, which means “Brother Snake”, became a part of the Phang family on the eve of Chinese New Year in 1990.

The python was a local icon in Kuching, widely known for being tame as well as for its size and age. — DayakDaily
