KUCHING, Feb 20: The alternative route from Limbang to Miri will enable the community residing near Mount Buda to be connected to Greater Miri, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He mentioned that the Greater Miri Plan 2030, among others, covers development in Miri and Subis and aims to recognise Niah as a Unesco product and connect Marudi and Miri.

“From Marudi, we will develop road under Highland Development Agency (HDA) right up to Long Terawan in Mulu. This means we will have a road to the interior that is rich in nature.

“This road will also be connected to another road from Limbang because we developed a road from Limbang town to Mount Buda, and Mount Buda and Mulu share the same mountain.

“If there is access, the local community residing in the area will be connected to Greater Miri. This is what we wish to develop from Subis right up to the interior,” he said.

He said this when officiating at Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) Miri’s 14th General Meeting for 2021-2024 Session held at Eastwood Gold and Country Club in Miri today.

Abang Johari also mentioned that when all infrastructure has been well developed, Sarawak can anticipate Shell Malaysia (Shell) to return and make Miri its headquarters again.

“I believe other companies will also follow suit in making Miri their base. When this happens, it means we will have growing services, tourism, and agricultural activities that can open up more opportunities for our business community,” he added.

The chief minister urged everyone to look at the State’s regional market and establish their marketing network.

He is confident that by 2030, if the State focuses on talent development following the new era, it will be able to accelerate the economic growth in Miri.

“However, it depends on oneself. We cannot force people, but surely you can analyse what is going on and position yourself in this era of transformation,” he said. — DayakDaily
