LIMBANG, June 20: A proposal to establish a cluster school in Limbang to tackle recurring flood-related disruptions at several schools has garnered support from the local community following an engagement session held on Friday (June 19).

According to Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, who is also Limbang MP, the cluster school would combine SK Meritam, SK Tiga Kampung, SK Telahak, and SK Kuala Awang, with a site identified near Kampung Telahak and Kampung Binjai, located along the main route of the North Coastal Highway (NCH) project.

“I have requested that this cluster school be established in Limbang. Flooding occurs almost every month and disrupts students’ learning, damages school facilities, and exposes them to crocodile threats.

“Based on the engagement session conducted, parents and the Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) have agreed with the proposal. The consent of the villagers is an important prerequisite before the schools can be merged,” he said.

He said this during a site visit to the Kemas preschool project in Medamit following the closing ceremony of the Educational Motivation Programme and Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Strengthening Talk organised by Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (Sadia) Limbang, as reported by TVS.

Meanwhile, the government is also considering a new secondary school, which has been proposed for development near the cluster school site. — DayakDaily
