Long Lellang STOLport temporarily closed after helicopter crash; flights rescheduled

KUCHING, Sept 9: The Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport) has been temporarily closed to commercial operations following yesterday’s helicopter crash near the airport.

AirBorneo Airways Sdn Bhd (AirBorneo), in a statement today, said the closure had resulted in two flights scheduled for today being rescheduled to Friday.

The affected flights are MY3602 from Miri to Long Lellang and MY3603 from Long Lellang to Miri.

“We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and cooperation as the relevant authorities carry out the necessary investigations,” it said.

Yesterday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) said a BO-105 helicopter crashed near the Long Lellang STOLport, killing all five people on board, including the pilot.

CAAM said it received notification of the incident from the Flight Information Service at 3.58pm. — Bernama
