Kuching, Sept 9: The haze situation across Sarawak showed slight improvement today, particularly in Serian, which moved out of the hazardous category after its Air Pollutant Index (API) reading dropped below 300 as of 8am.
According to data from the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak, Serian’s API reading fell significantly from 303 yesterday to 212 today. Despite the improvement, it remained among the areas recording the highest pollution levels in the State.
Lundu recorded the highest API reading in Sarawak today at 233, although this was an improvement from Tuesday’s reading of 260.
Elsewhere, API readings remained below 200, with Kuching and Samarahan each recording 186, followed by Sri Aman and Sarikei at 174, Sibu at 104, Mukah at 157, Bintulu at 156, Samalaju at 170, and Miri at 151.
Kapit and Limbang continued to remain in the moderate category, with API readings below 100.
Meanwhile, Bario maintained its position as the area with the cleanest air in the State, recording an API reading of just 21. — DayakDaily
