Let’s have English as our medium of instruction in school, suggests PBDSB

William Mangor

KUCHING, May 31: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) is of the view that teaching Science and Mathematics in English is only meeting the needs of Sarawak halfway.

Its information chief, William Mangor, said all subjects should be taught in English, with the exception of Bahasa Melayu, of course.

“It is important to introduce the English language in all syllabuses so that our students can master the language. In addition, it should start at the kindergarten level,” he said in a statement today.

For Pendidikan Agama Islam, William suggested that Bahasa Jawi be implemented from the kindergarten level, too.

Major religious education subjects like Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and even natives’ beliefs could be introduced as elective subjects, he suggested.

William made this comment following the government’s decision to teach Science and Mathematics in English starting at Primary One next year.

“It is a good start for us, but we need to move a step further, like reclaiming our education autonomy. Once we have our education autonomous rights back, whatever is good for Sarawak, we can do and make them come true,” he said. — DayakDaily
