MIRI, Oct 18: Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon is calling on the state government to retract a circular prohibiting local community leaders from attending programmes not sanctioned by the state government.
Speaking at a press conference held on Thursday afternoon at Miri DAP’s office in Krokop, Dr Ting described such an act as ‘very despicable’ as it would deter community leaders from carrying out their duties towards the rakyat.
“It is a very despicable act; the state government (should not only be) for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) supporters,” he said, adding that by making such a move, GPS would see a shift in support from the people.
“Let the community leaders serve the public with no interference by the government,” he said.
Earlier, Dr Ting announced a grant allocation for the Pujut constituency worth RM150,000 from the federal government.
“I am very happy with the allocation given, even a small amount, I will fully utilise it for my constituents,” he said. — DayakDaily
