LBU safety officer and traffic controller jailed six months and fined RM12,500 for receiving RM2,500 bribe

Both accused being escorted by MACC officers.

KUCHING, July 9: A safety officer with Lebuhraya Borneo Utara (LBU) and a traffic controller with Borneo Traffic Sdn Bhd were each sentenced to a jail term of six months and a fine of RM12,500 for receiving bribes of RM2,500 from contractors and sub-contractors.

A safety officer of LBU and a traffic controller with Borneo Traffic Sdn Bhd pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009 and punishable under Section 24(1)(a) and (b) of the same Act.


Sessions Court Judge Steve Ritikos sentenced them of an imprisonment of six months and a fine of RM12,500 or in default to six months imprisonment respectively.

They pleaded guilty to have received bribes amounting to RM2,500 from a few contractors and sub-contractors as monthly commission and an inducement to make reports of repair of faulty road and road maintenance of the Pan Borneo Highway, in March 2017.

They were arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on June 29, 2021.

Prosecuting Officer Azmi Yusuf prosecuted while both accused were unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
