KUCHING, Sept 1: The Giatmara Kuching building at Taman Budaya here was heavily damaged in a fire that occurred late on Monday night (Aug 31).
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department, a call was received at 11.10pm, and firefighters from the Padungan station were deployed with assistance provided by the Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya stations.
Upon arrival, it was noted that the fire involved a building measuring 50×50 square feet.
The operations team conducted offensive firefighting operations using two 200-foot hose lines and four nozzles. The initial water supply was provided by the Batu Lintang fire and rescue vehicle, with additional water supplied by the Tabuan Jaya fire and rescue water tanker.
The operation was brought under control by 12.08am today, and the operation concluded at 1.41am.
The building was approximately 80 per cent damaged. No casualties were involved.
The cause of the fire and the total amount of losses are still under investigation. — DayakDaily
