KUCHING, April 12: Following continuous rainfall overnight, a landslide damaged five ‘doors’ (‘bilik’ or room) of Rumah Chuat longhouse in Sarikei.
In a Facebook post yesterday (April 11), Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarikei branch chairman Bruce Yee said the incident was the fourth occurrence since September 2022.
“Fortunately, it did not cause any casualties. All 36 residents also had to build a temporary shelter nearby because the longhouse structure has been affected,” he said.
Yee said that although the local authorities are aware of previous landslides at the longhouse, action has yet to be taken to repair it or ensure the safety of its residents.
Therefore, he urged local authorities to follow up on the matter. — DayakDaily
