KUCHING, Sept 17: The Land and Survey Information System (LASIS), an integrated land information solution that supports a full range of business processes on land matters, is internationally recognised.

According to Sarawak Land and Survey Department (LSD) director Datu Abdullah Julaihi, in the World Bank Doing Business 2020 report, the JTS office in Kuching, which is powered by LASIS, was recognised for two categories, namely the quality of land administration index and Geographic Information System (GIS).

“This has brought LASIS to global recognition at the Esri User Conference 2022 in San Diego, California, competing with 100,000 entries from Esri users worldwide. This is the second recognition after the first in 2013,” said Julaihi in his speech during the closing ceremony of Land and Survey Innovation and Integrity Day (HITTS) Sarawak 2022 streamed live through the Sarawak Public Information Unit (Ukas) Facebook page tonight.

He explained that in the first category, which is the quality of land administration index, LASIS is highlighted on its reliability of infrastructure dimension, going fully digital, link property registry, and cadastral mapping that allows updating of records electronically.

“This is ahead of the offices in Johor Bharu, Kuala Lumpur, Georgetown, Kuantan, and Kota Kinabalu. We are only 0.5 points behind the regional best, which is Singapore,” he added.

He said the GIS technologies are where the property ownership database and cadastral system were unified. — DayakDaily
