Labourer who tried to escape EMCO by ramming motorcycle into police officer jailed for six months

KUCHING, Nov 9: A laborer was sentenced to six months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today.

Sazeli Rohana, 21, pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 353 of the Penal Code.


Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi accepted his plea and sentenced him to imprisonment of six months, with effect from the date of arrest which was July 31, 2021.

The accused was charged with ramming a motorcycle into Corporal Mohmmad Noor near Surau Darussalam, Tabuan Melayu, at about 9.30pm on July 26.

According to the brief facts of the case, during the incident, the victim was on duty and was doing his rounds with four People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) members at the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) area in Kampung Tabuan Melayu.

The accused was trying to escape from the EMCO area without valid reason and had subsequently rammed the motorcycle into the police officer.

A police investigation revealed the accused escaped from the EMCO area without valid reason.

Prosecuting Officer Insp Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
