KUCHING, June 7: After a long hiatus due to Covid-19, Kuching Festival is making a comeback and along with it is Kuching’s Got Talent (KGT).
KGT is a platform for aspiring performers, musicians and other talented individuals to showcase their skills, traditionally held every year along with the festival, until it was put on hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to a press release issued by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS), the audition for KGT 2022 will be held at the MBKS auditorium on July 2-3.
“The semi-final and finale will be held on Aug 13 (Saturday) and Aug 14 (Sunday), respectively,” said the council.
A total sum of RM22,600 in cash prizes in various categories will be awarded to the winners. In addition, there is also a Facebook Most-Liked Award for the finalists’ supporters to vote via Kuching’s Got Talent 2022 FB Fan Page.
The voting process will be closed after the performance of the last group under the Dance Category on Aug 14.
“Besides our local industry experts, music producers, singers, music talents, dance examiners or choreographers, managing directors from recording companies will also be invited to form a panel of judges this year.
“This could be a ‘ticket’ for the winners to get themselves signed by recording companies. In addition, we are also hoping to attract more creative arts enthusiasts to join us,” said the council.
They went on to say that in 2019, more than 100 participants had taken part in the contest, with the most popular category being the Singing Category.
The physical copy of the application form is obtainable from MBKS Lobby’s Security Counter or downloadable from the council’s website at https://mbks.sarawak.gov.my/.
The completed application form must be submitted on or before June 27 (Monday) by 4.30pm to the MBKS Security Counter, where a submission box will be provided.
