KUCHING, Aug 13: The haze has forced the postponement of Harmony Walk 2026, with organisers deferring the event scheduled for Aug 15 at Kuching Waterfront due to concerns over poor air quality.
According to TVS News, the Islamic Information Centre of the Sarawak Islamic Council (IIC-MIS), together with its strategic partners, said the decision was made after taking into consideration the safety, health and well-being of all parties involved.
In a joint statement today, the organisers said their priority was to ensure participants, organising committee members, volunteers and members of the public were not exposed to health risks arising from the current weather conditions.
“Harmony Walk 2026 has not been cancelled, but postponed. The new date will be announced once conditions are suitable again and the organisers are confident that the programme can be held safely and comfortably for all participants,” the statement said.
The annual programme brings together people of different races, religions and backgrounds in Sarawak, aiming to strengthen ties, foster mutual understanding and celebrate the spirit of harmony among communities.
The walking event around the city centre also serves as a platform for social interaction and community engagement.
The organisers apologised for any inconvenience caused by the postponement and thanked participants for their support and understanding, particularly those who had already made preparations to attend the event.
