KUCHING, Sept 27: Kuching has once again been chosen to host the International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Junior Tennis Tour J1 and J3 from Oct 4 to 16.

In a news report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) president Dato Patrick Liew said the two events are among the most prestigious and high-ranking ITF Junior events.

The J1-ranked event is the 36th Perdana Sarawak Cup, while J3 is the 37th Perdana Sarawak Cup.

“The ITF World Junior Tennis Tour will feature over 650 tournaments with players from 140 countries competing across six tournament levels from J1 to J5.

“This year, SLTA will be hosting over 160 players from 30 countries with their coaches and parents for both tournaments,” he said.

He said this after paying a courtesy call to the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday (Sept 26).

He further explained that the tournaments are among the important events in the world of tennis that will put Sarawak on the map as a destination for sports tourism.

In the meantime, he said, the Sarawak government always supports and wants to work with any association in organising international sports events.
