KUCHING, Sept 27: The household income eligibility requirement for the Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme (SRAS) application has been increased to RM3,500 per month.

It is open to tenants working in the cities of Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, and Miri. SRAS is a rental assistance scheme of RM200 per month for a maximum of 36 months or three years.

According to a press statement, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Sarawak chief executive officer Mohamad Asman Ahmad said the State government allocated RM48 million for the scheme, which is expected to benefit about 20,000 eligible households.

“The increase in household income eligibility requirements is expected to help ease the financial burden borne by the low-income group, especially the urban poor,” he said.

He added that those who wish to apply for SRAS must meet several criteria; namely, the applicant must be a Malaysian citizen or a permanent resident in Sarawak possessing a MyKad with ‘K’ status. eKasih recipients are also eligible to apply.

Additionally, the applicant must be aged 21 and above, married or a single parent with at least one child living with them. Priority will also be given to applicants categorised as people with disabilities (OKU).

If they are currently renting, the rented premises must not belong to a close family member.

Interested tenants can obtain information and download the SRAS application form for free on the HDC website https://hdc.sarawak.gov.my/ or by contacting HDC directly at 082-444381. Information about the scheme has also been updated on HDC Sports & Recreation Welfare Club Facebook page.

The completed application form must be accompanied by a copy of the marriage or divorce certificate, a copy of the applicant and spouse’s MyKad; a copy of the MyKad or birth certificate of the dependent child living with the applicant; and for OKU applicants, a copy of their OKU card.

Other documents to be enclosed with the application are the household’s monthly salary statement, signed and stamped rental agreement, and consent of the owner’s rented premises for tenants to participate in the scheme. — DayakDaily
