KUCHING, Aug 11: International recording artist JessC will bring her ‘My Style’ World Tour back to her hometown of Kuching for two nights on December 4 and 5, with the concerts set to take place at the Pullman Grand Ballroom.
The singer, whose real name is Jessie Chung, is promising a larger production featuring songs in seven languages, live instrumental performances, dancers, backing vocalists and an international production team.
The December concerts are expected to showcase Mandarin, Cantonese, English, Bahasa Malaysia, Japanese and Hokkien, among other languages, with bilingual arrangements also planned.
JessC will also perform while playing four musical instruments herself, adding dance elements to the show as part of what she describes as a ‘positive-energy healing music experience’.
“I don’t want people to simply come and watch a performance. I want them to leave the concert feeling stronger, more energetic and more alive than when they walked in,” she said in a statement.
The Kuching shows will also feature songs from her repertoire that have received recognition at music awards in the United States and Europe.
JessC said her journey from the Chinese-language music market to international audiences had strengthened her belief that music should transcend language and cultural boundaries.
“This has always been my dream — that one day my songs could travel around the world. Not only to Chinese audiences. I want people of different languages and cultures to hear my music,” she said.
She said her work in ‘healing music’ was intended to provide emotional support and encourage positive wellbeing, rather than replace medical treatment.
“I am not telling people that music can cure diseases. What I hope is that music can help a person move into a better emotional and physical state,” she said.
JessC also said she hoped the Kuching concerts would give audiences an opportunity to temporarily put aside the pressures of everyday life and leave with a renewed sense of hope.
“I hope that when people walk out of the venue, they can say to themselves: Tomorrow, I can keep going.”
Following the Kuching leg, her management is planning to expand the tour to Australia, Taiwan and Indonesia, with the Indonesian leg tentatively targeted for March to April 2027.
A major indoor venue in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, is also being considered for the tour next year.
JessC further expressed hopes of future collaborations with Malaysian artistes including Datuk AC Mizal and Fauziah Latiff, saying she wanted to create more musical crossovers between Chinese, English and Malay music.
Beyond music, JessC is also preparing to return to competitive table tennis, with the Western Australia State Table Tennis Championships scheduled for August 29.
She is targeting a top-three finish, which would give her an opportunity to represent Western Australia at the Australian National Championships in October. — DayakDaily
