KUCHING, Sept 5: About 700 athletes from across Sarawak gathered in Kuching, vying for a shot at gold at the recently concluded PTNS—SSC State Inter Club Taekwondo (WTF) Championship 2023.
According to a press release, the two-day event from Sept 1–2 was sanctioned by Taekwondo Malaysia and organised by the Sarawak Taekwondo Association with the support of Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS), and Nestle Sdn Bhd.
“I am pleased to see that the association has already expressed an interest in the coming 2024 Sukma Games (Malaysia Games). I am fully confident that together with enthusiasm and teamwork, Sarawak is on the track for another successful Sukma.
“My sincere hope is that our young athletes will further enhance their standard and retain glory for the State,” said Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED) permanent secretary Morshidi Frederick during his speech at the opening ceremony of the event at SJK Chung Hua No. 2 recently.
Sarawak Taekwondo Associationbvice president, Timothy Then Yit Fui, added that the event was also an opportunity for participants to hone their skills, groom new talents, and provide exposure in a competitive setting while promoting friendship, sportsmanship, and cooperation within the different clubs. — DayakDaily
